HISTORY of ST. JAMES EPISCOPAL CHURCH,
McLEANSBORO
1880 -

Meeting held with Bishop Seymour soliciting his aid in establishing Episcopal services in McLeansboro. With help from the Bishop's Missionary Fund, sufficient funds were raised for a Minister to be called. The Rev. Ingram N.W. Irvine, then Rector of St. James, Long Island accepted the call as vicar. A contract to erect a church was let.

Services were held in a public hall until the church building was completed and consecrated.

The church was built of locally made brick and native limestone.


1881 -

Church building consecrated by Bishop Seymour on November 17, 1881.

1892 -

Rectory built.

1995 -

Church building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
